Episode Mexico: 6/28/11 and 6/29/11

6/28
We slept in and went to the beach for the last time. It was stuffy in the room from no power so being out in the air was refreshing. The beach was rough. Rough water, windy, with occasional rain. But it was still enjoyable. We came in and went to town. We had played with the idea of looking at a condo (just for fun) but decided not to in the end. We found a cute cafe off the beaten path and had the most amazing soup for lunch. And then it was back to Ah Cacao. Big surprise there! I was completely addicted. That visit, I had their Chocolate Maya which was chili pepper hot chocolate. We sat and drew and read and wrote and it was wonderful.
That night we went to a restaurant a friend had recommended. It turned out to be good but not as good as we were expecting. A little too American. We agreed that staying at an all-inclusive resort would be nice if we had a bunch of kids but being on our own it was much nicer being able to check out cool restaurants in town instead of being stuck eating at the same resort restaurants the whole visit.
And as we all know...I like towels folded into cool things.

Our last day. I think we both woke up a little sad. But I was glad we were leaving later in the day so we had time to go out for breakfast and enjoy the town one last time. We had spied a bagel cafe next to the massage place so we headed there for breakfast (I had a bagel with salmon on it and it was great) and afterward hit up (you guessed it) Ah Cacao.
After our last coffee, we walked back through town and took a few last photos of the shops and got out last weed offers which we decided marked the point where we were happy we were going home. I was ready to be home again. Believe you me, it gets really annoying and tiring getting asked if you want drugs several times a day.
Back at the hotel, we packed our last few things up and checked out. The Cancun airport had a REALLY extensive duty-free shop that was very tempting. But in the end we just got some Kinder Eggs (YAYYYYY) and some snacks for the plane. On the plane, we couldn't resist starting to plan our next trip on paper: CHINA. Someday... ;)
I can't even begin to explain what a wonderful trip this was for us. It was the relaxing getaway we've been needing for quite awhile. I really do hope to go back one day...and see those whale sharks up close and personal. And the manna rays. And speaking of rays...our close encounter of rays was not over...when we got home, the next day we'd be going to have breakfast with the rays at the aquarium! Bad timing RIGHT after a trip, I know. BUT it was literally the only day that would work for John. So more on that later.
The flights were pretty uneventful and customs and immigration wasn't too terrible in Miami. By the time we reached Raleigh at around midnight, I was ready to throw a few Americans across the airport. But that's traveling in this country of sense-of-entitlement-jerks for ya...hehe.
And that, my friends, is the end of our Mexico adventure. Now to get caught up on everything ELSE that's been going on! Ahh!!!
